Welcome from the Governors
On behalf of the Governing Body, welcome to Charlton Kings Junior School!
Our Governing Body is made up of a group of people, all actively dedicated to ensuring excellent outcomes for the children that attend Charlton Kings Junior School. As you will see from this website, our school is a successful and happy place, where everyone is an active learner. The atmosphere is positive, encouraging and stimulating; we balance academic focus with broader social, physical and creative activity.
The Governing Body is made up from parents, people from the community and staff at the school. School governors make collective decisions as part of the Governing Body, the main function of which is to conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at CKJS. Governors make important decisions on how the school is and will be run, but are not involved in the day to day operational business of the school – this is the work of the leadership team and the staff.
To give you a brief overview the three core strategic functions of the Governing Body are as follows:
- To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, to set out the vision for the school and its broad ambitions.
- To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school, its pupils and staff.
- To oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.
In terms of structure, the Governing Body organises itself into two key Committees, each with specific focus:
Curriculum and Learning
Operations and Estates
If you would like to know more about the elected and appointed volunteers that make up our Governing Body please see the Governors Details page which gives details for each of us and our roles on the Governing Body.
